In the Torah portion of Vayetze, the rivalry between Jacob and Esau comes to a head. First, Jacob takes advantage of his brother’s hunger, trading him a pot of lentil stew in exchange for Esau’s birthright. Then, at his mother Rebecca’s urging, he tricks his father, Isaac, into thinking he is Esau, and takes the blessing meant for his brother.
