Sibling rivalry once again rears its head in the portion of Vayeshev, this time with Jacob’s sons.
Joseph is Jacob’s favorite son, and he makes no effort to hide his feelings of superiority to his brothers. So the older brothers hatch a plan to put Joseph in his place, and end up selling him into slavery in Egypt, setting the ground work for what will ultimately become the story of the enslavement, and then the Exodus, of the Jewish people.
